Higashi Matsushima

Higashi Matushima, just west of Ishinomaki was where George Butler was stationed at Camp Matsushima. He often wandered the area outside the camp taking photographs of the villages and fields. The photos below show the area area near Numajiri Omagari that was inundated by 5.6m waves. In 1951 is was largely agricultural with some industrial. The inlet was developed after World War II as the Ishinomaki Harbor.
