Introduction from the Publisher for 1951 Reborn

Color photos of the Ishinomaki region from the post-war period are the subject of 1951 Reborn.  About two years ago, I learned about these photographs, taken by former US Army Doctor, George Butler.  I started looking at the website "Miyagi 1951", exhibiting the photos of George Butler, and wanted to introduce it more widely to readers.

The book compiles the Ishinomaki Kahoku's "Reviving 1951" series. The series started in January 2018 and has been published for more than one and a half years. The greatest feature is that color photographs, unusual at the time, were preserved in a beautiful state. For many Japanese it is possible that the monochrome world, which had been generally recorded, will be vividly recolored from the perspective of a visitor, and that the society and life of the Ishinomaki region at that time will be highlighted. Scenery which disappeared as a result of modernization and everyday life of those times of postwar reconstruction is reflected in his photographs.  It is valuable document, through which one part of the postwar history can be better understood.

Thank you again.
