1951 Reborn is a compilation of 70 articles written for the newspaper Ishinomaki Kahoku in 2018 and 2019 by local Ishinomaki historian Seiji Henmi. Each article describes one or more photographs of George Butler. The articles place the photographs in locales in the Ishinomaki and Higashi-Matsushima area and give Mr. Henmi’s analysis and recollection of the events and conditions of 1951. Accompanying the articles are often photographs of the locations as they look today and Alan Butler’s language descriptions. Alan also incorporated comments about the photos that were left on the website or at the exhibitions. A number of people have been identified from the photographs. We are pleased to be able to share these photographs with the people of the Miyagi Prefecture and beyond.
